Pokljuka Gorge

The Pokljuka plateau is a treasure trove of natural wonders, the best known of which is the Pokljuka Gorge. This nearly 2 km long ravine is a remnant of a stream which, at the end of the last Ice Age, cut up to 40 metres deep into the limestone slopes above the Radovna. The waters gradually lowed away, and the stream withdrew into the underground, leaving behind the largest dry fossil gorge in Slovenia.

Vintgar Gorge

The Radovna river cuts the Vintgar Gorge deep between the hills of Hom and Boršt. It is flanked by steep slopes overgrown with beech forests. Locals have always viewed the gorge with awe and respect. It was discovered in 1891 by Mr Jakob Žumer, the mayor of Gorje, and Mr Benedikt Lergetporer, a cartographer and photographer from Bled. Both were amazed by the beauty and the mysterious character of this natural attraction. In 1893 the gorge was opened to the public. The Vintgar Gorge is the 1600 meters long and up to 250 meters deep gorge on the Eastern part of the Triglav National Park, 4 kilometres Northwest from the centre of Bled. Visit Vintgar Gorge

Radovna valley

One of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Slovenia is certainly the valley of the river Radovna, into which two valleys, Kot and Krma, converge. The mentioned area is spread in the Triglav National Park, which partially limits the development of mass tourism. Due to its beauty, it is mostly visited by those who want peace and clean air. Driving thru the valley on bike is a great adventure.

Pokljuka Plateau

Pokljuka is a forested high karst plateau in the Julian Alps. It is the largest rounded forest area in the Triglav National Park. It is 20 kilometres long and almost as wide. In the forests that cover the plateau, spruce predominates. Some of them still graze livestock from June to September and you can buy milk, cottage cheese and cheese from the shepherds. Mountain huts: Bled hut on Lipanca (1633 m), where you can also spend the night; Planinka Hut (1288 m) on Goreljek.

Bled is only a few kilometres away from the Sun House and can also be reached by bus. A walk around the lake is a pleasant recreation, and for the most romantic, a visit to the island with a traditional boat called “pletna” is a must. Bled castle is also an attraction you cannot miss. Visit Bled
